One year ago, we embarked on a sabbatical—a journey that would forever change our lives. As a couple and partners for life, we set out with a simple goal: to explore the world, one country at a time. Little did we know that this adventure would lead us to visit not just 100, but 150 countries before we turned 50.
The first months of our sabbatical were particularly memorable. We traveled with our children and their loved ones, cherishing precious moments together. Our son’s upcoming wedding in Cyprus was the main reason for this family gathering. After celebrating his marriage, we bid farewell to our children and continued our journey independently. From planes to trains, and even cruises, we eagerly sought out the hidden treasures of our beautiful planet.

The Unplanned Odyssey
Our journey didn’t began spontaneously. Back in 2018, after reaching our initial goal of visiting 100 countries, we found ourselves yearning for more. The thrill of new cultures, landscapes, and flavors fueled our desire to keep going. So, without a meticulously crafted itinerary, we set off in this sabbatical on may 2023, adding destinations as we went along. Each place we explored left an indelible mark on our souls—a mosaic of memories woven together by the threads of adventure.

Gratitude and Blessings
As we stand here, having exceeded our wildest dreams, we feel immense gratitude. We appreciate the strangers who became friends, the sunsets that painted the sky in unfamiliar hues, and the laughter shared over meals in lively markets. Our journey wasn’t just about checking off countries; it was about connecting with humanity, understanding our shared stories, and celebrating our differences.
We sincerely thank everyone who played a role in making this dream a reality. From the kind souls who gave directions in broken English to the families who welcomed us into their homes to learn more about their culture, our hearts overflow with appreciation. We feel blessed to have witnessed people’s resilience despite adversity, the beauty of ancient temples, and the vibrant rhythm of life in bustling cities.

Following Our Hearts and Passions
Our success wasn’t accidental. It stemmed from our choice to follow our hearts and passions. We discovered that the most memorable experiences often occurred when we deviated from the usual path—whether we were chasing sunrises over misty mountains or dancing with locals at lively festivals. Our instincts led us to hidden waterfalls, secluded beaches, and cozy cafés where conversations flowed freely.
In Bhutan, we discovered spirituality and tranquility while ascending the Tiger’s Nest. This awe-inspiring monastery, perched on a cliff and enveloped in mist and prayer flags, felt like a connection between the earthly and the divine. Each step up the steep trail was akin to a pilgrimage—a journey both inward and upward.
In the Namibian deserts, we marveled at the sand dunes. The shifting sands created captivating patterns, their warm colors contrasting against the brilliant blue sky. Standing atop a dune, the wind brushed against our faces, making us feel small in the vastness of nature—a humbling reminder of our place in the grand tapestry of existence.
Moments of spirituality, nature, and vibrancy remind us of the richness of our shared human experience. Whether we’re perched on a cliff, standing in a desert, or bargaining in a market, we find connection and meaning. Perhaps that’s the true essence of travel: not only the places we visit, but also the stories we collect along the way.

Believing in Ourselves
Our journey taught us more than just geography. It taught us about ourselves. We believe in our abilities—to adapt, connect, and thrive. Our hearts remain open, ready for the next adventure. As we approach 50, we know age is just a number; curiosity and wonder are timeless companions. We’ve learned that the world is both vast and intimate—a collection of stories waiting to be woven.
Let’s celebrate new adventures, unknown trails, and serendipitous moments. Embrace wanderlust, inner strength, and the enchantment of exploration. As long as we stay curious and open-hearted, the journey continues—a harmonious dance of footsteps across the globe.
Note: Our passports are filled with stamps, our memories etched in pixels, and our souls forever marked by the places we’ve called home—even if just for a fleeting moment!
